Early Winter Excursion [ Fog, Trees + Cameras ]

Winter is a time of hibernating for many as the air is chilled and the pace of life slower. However, if you can muster the energy to crawl out of your warm cozy bed and get outside there is beauty to be found. This hike starts at the top of Armond Way on Salt Spring Island. Emily, my adventuresome sidekick and I pulled up to park at 7:30 am. The light was just coming above the horizon and the sky starting to fill with a chill blue color.

The mission for this trip was to take some photos and watch the fog lift. If you ever have the time to sit outdoors and watch fog move, do it! It is quite a beautiful site.  It moves slowly and quietly, yet can transform any view drastically moment by moment.

Below are some of the photos both Emily and I took. I was shooting with my Canon digital camera while emily was having fun playing with my medium format film camera, the Lubitel, by Lomography. Enjoy the images and remember, get outside, have an adventure, and document it with a camera!

The image to the left is my favourite image of the morning. I just love the transition in colors. The eery blues of the fog, warm light of the sun, + finally some blue sky peeking through!

Early mornings, the sunrise, + the fog lifting through the trees! This image does not do justice to the moment. There is something special about watching early morning fog moving through the trees and up the side of a mountain.

Two girls on an Adventure. Thanks rubber boots + wool socks for keeping our feet dry!

These two photos taken on the Lubitel with 800 ISO Film. No photoshop editing, just the raw scan!  Photo Credit Emily Myers. This was her first time with this camera. I love the double exposure on the image to the right!
